THE TIME FOR CHANGE IS NOW

It is time to start advocating for change, for a kinder, more loyal and unified world.

Divisive language has transformed into a divisive culture and many individuals are looking for peace within this conflict.¹

According to Pew Research, Americans in 2016 are increasingly sorted into think-alike clicks that reflect our polarizing opinions. Segregation and conflict follows. We are increasingly discouraging tolerance and encouraging hostility in our families, friendships, in the workplace, political arena, and beyond.

The result has been a rise in identity-based animosity of one party toward the other that extends far beyond the issues, and are in turn inflamed by judgement, negative language, and unjustified, hyperbolic gossip.

Democrats and Republicans no longer halt at disagreeing with each other’s ideas. They now deny the other’s facts, disapprove of each other’s lifestyles, impugn each other’s motives, doubt each other’s loyalties, and can’t stomach each other’s news sources.

Within almost every realm of relationship, we all bring different value systems to core social institutions like religion, marriage, work, and parenthood. Rather than live and let live, we point fingers, judge and gossip about who did what and who's doing what wrong in our opinion, and it is getting us nowhere.

Indeed, gossip has received pejorative criticism and all cultures and societies experience similar scandalous effects of gossip, but little has been done to address the issue.

Word Effect understands that, just as negative language led, in part, to the divides in this country, in our relationships, positive language and the cognizant transformation of our speech habits can lead to peace, and the unification of our nation.
